Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Says Arsenal Need Another Striker

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given the strongest indication that the North London club will pursue another attacker over the upcoming January winter transfer window—telling reporters that he thinks the club need another attacker.Speaking out after the Gunners booked their place in the final 16 of the UEFA Champions League, the veteran manager stated that a mix of injuries and players unavailable for selection will most likely force the club into buying another striker this winter.
ARSENE SAID :
I just spoke about [a move for Thierry Henry because people asked me.
I said I don't rule it out because he's in good shape, but I haven't made up my mind yet [about whether to try and sign him or not.
We are looking maybe at a striker, because Gervinho goes to the African Nations Cup.

Thierry Henry to Arsenal? Wenger has yet to speak to the striker

Striker Thierry Henry is no closer to making another return to his former club Arsenal after manager Arsene Wenger said he had yet to speak to him about a second successive short-term loan.
Henry, who was on hand to watch Arsenal demolish rivals Tottenham 5-2 last weekend, rejoined his old club last January on a two-month loan spell from Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls and scored twice in seven appearances.
The 35-year-old is again looking to maintain his fitness during the MLS offseason and has been training with Arsenal, but new Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh is reportedly apprehensive about him returning to the Emirates and favours him resting over Christmas and New Year.
With forwards Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh expected to go to the 2013 African Cup of Nations and Arsenal reaching the last 16 of the Champions League, Wenger said he was contemplating adding a striker to his squad.
“I just spoke about that (a second Henry loan spell) because people asked me,” Wenger told the club’s website (www.arsenal.com) on Thursday.
“I said, ‘I don’t rule it out because he’s in good shape but I haven’t made up my mind yet.’
“I haven’t spoken to Thierry about it. I just answered a question honestly that I have not completely decided how I will sort it out in my head.
“We are maybe looking at a striker because Gervinho is going to the Africa Cup of Nations.”

Arsenal 2 Montpellier 0: Gunners go through thanks to Wilshere and Podolski !

The comparisons with Lionel Messi may be over the top for now, but Jack Wilshere’s comeback is complete after his goal helped Arsenal qualify for the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
With frustration mounting following a nervous first half, the England midfielder put his side ahead after just four minutes of the re-start.
Lukas Podolski added a quite spectacular second as Arsenal secured their passage, courtesy of Schalke’s win against Olympiacos.
But it was Wilshere’s goal that proved the difference. How vital it was, too.

Arsene Wenger warns against Arsenal complacency !

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger warned there can be no room for complacency against Champions League Group B whipping-boys Montpellier at Emirates Stadium tomorrow night.
The Gunners head into the European clash against the French club boosted by Saturday's 5-2 trashing of north London rivals Tottenham.
Montpellier, meanwhile, are without a win in their last four matches, and have no chance of making the last 16, bottom of the group with just one point.
Victory for Arsenal, coupled with a home win for Schalke against Olympiacos, would see them qualified ahead of Matchday Six.
"Not for a second would I think the team will be complacent tomorrow - they will be full of desire to do well and win the game, I am certain of that," Wenger said.
"It is important on the back of the Tottenham game we show another good performance and a resolute attitude, that is at stake for me tomorrow. After, if we produce the quality performance, we will win the game.
"We do it step by step. First of all we want to qualify, then try to top the group, so let us just win the game tomorrow."
Wenger added: "Montpellier had a slow start to the season, but they have rediscovered their balance over the last few months and they played very well against Paris St Germain.
"It should be an open game because a draw is not good for either side."
